Accessibility Statement

We build this site so that people using screen readers, keyboards and magnification can use it too — and we want to hear when we get it wrong.

Our commitment

Much of our audience is older adults and their families. Accessibility is not a compliance checkbox for us — it is whether the people we exist to serve can actually read this website and reach us through it.

Conformance status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. We consider this site partially conformant: we have tested it with automated tooling and applied the guidelines throughout, but we have not yet completed an audit with real users of assistive technology. We are not going to claim more than we have verified.

What we have done

  • Text and background colors meet WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • Every function is reachable with a keyboard alone, and the focus indicator is always visible.
  • A "skip to main content" link lets keyboard and screen reader users bypass the navigation.
  • Headings follow a real hierarchy, with a single H1 per page, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
  • Images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
  • Form fields have visible, programmatically associated labels, and results are announced to screen readers.
  • Body text is set larger than the common default, and the layout reflows without horizontal scrolling when text is enlarged.
  • Animation respects the operating system "reduce motion" preference.
  • The site is published in English and Spanish, with the page language declared so screen readers pronounce it correctly.

Known limitations

  • Documents or forms hosted by third parties, where linked, may not meet the same standard. Tell us and we will give you the information another way.
  • We have not yet completed usability testing with assistive technology users.

How we assess accessibility

Every page is checked with automated accessibility tooling as part of our build process, and reviewed by hand against the WCAG 2.1 AA criteria before release.
